Lucy - Mission to Jupiter Orbit
Lucy: a NASA spacecraft launching in 2021 towards the orbit of Jupiter to explore Trojan asteroids (asteroids around Jupiter.) The mission will be the first ever to visit this type of asteroids, and will also break the record for the number of targets visited on a single trip. Lucy will visit not only a single Trojan asteroid, but seven!
Lucy has two imager on board; one is working in the ranges 0.4 to 0.85 microns, and the other is working in the ranges 0.35 to 0.85 microns, as well as an infrared spectrometer working in the ranges 6 to 75 microns.
Alongside all the scientific instruments onboard, the spacecraft will also be equipped with two solar panels, each is 7.3 meters (23.9 feet) in diameter producing a minimum of 503 watts at the worst conditions, and a 2 meter (6.5 feet) high gain antenna to communicate back with Earth and to help determine the exact masses of the asteroids.
